District 5 Extension Education Spring Meeting

District 5 Extension Education Spring Meeting held at the Windom Convention Center was attended by 40 members and agents and District personnel from around East Texas. I should have a picture to show, but I will have to tell about it, as if I were a writer. Debra Chadwick helped us make the room look like the theme of the day, "TEEA Chicken Fling", with her Chicken Collection. Margaret Smith provided a chicken theme quilt which was displayed in the corner of the room. Peaches Conway, Bobbie Nutt and Annette Jackson managed the registration table. They handed out goody bags with information on Center and our chicken industry. Feleshia Thompson, County Extension Agent for Family and Community Health, helped us with arrangements and planning.

District 5 Director, Suzie Blackmon from Cherokee County, was in charge of directing the time which included flag salutes to the United States flag and Texas State flag. The group was welcomed by County Judge, Allison Harbison. The Poultry Festival Queen showed us how to do the Chicken Dance during our break. Our formalities include our TEEA Prayer and Creed led by Annette Jackson. We had Door Prizes and Raffles to hlep raise money for scholarships for 4-H members. Shelby County made a big contribution to the scholarship fund because our meeting was fully funded by the Chamber of Commerce and Tyson Foods and we did not turn in any bills to the Treasurer. We also collect money for supplies and repair of the 4-H camp in Brownwood. Of course we had a box lunch which featured more chicken prepared by a local caterer.

Our Key Note Speaker was Mayor, David Chadwick who told us more about the City of Center square than meets the eye and in so doing challanged us to help the cause of living by doing our part. In the business meeting we accepted the task of selling tickets for a sewing machine. We needed to update the by-laws to keep up with changes in the world. Suzie Blackmon reported what happened at the State Board. We made plans for future meetings on the District and State levels.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. I do not have that many words but I would like to know if this sounds interesting to you and if you might like to become a member and help us with monthly and district meetings in the future.
