Press Release 8/12/2021

The rapid increase in reported Covid-19 cases is very alarming to me.  With two variants of the coronavirus surging, I urge residents to be cautious, if you are running a fever, feel sick, or have been exposed to the virus please seek medical assistance and isolate yourself.

It is very important not to forget what we learned last year when the pandemic first came to Shelby County.  Below is a reminder of the protocol that has helped control the virus in the past.

  • Wash hands often for 20 seconds and encourage others to do the same. Use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are unavailable.

  • Wear a cloth face covering in public and during large gatherings.

  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue, then throw the tissue away.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Disinfect surfaces, buttons, handles, knobs, and other places touched often.

  • Stay six feet apart from others.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • Stay home if you are sick.

The state has NOT issued a mask mandate; it is your choice to wear a mask or not.

The following providers are giving the Covid-19 vaccine:

Aurora Concepts – 936-591-8171 – is accepting walk-ins without appointments.

Brookshires Brothers Pharmacy – 936-591-9122 – by appointment only.

CVS Pharmacy – 936-598-6254 – is accepting walk-ins and by appointment.

Hope Clinic – 936-598-2716 – by appointment only.

Walmart Pharmacy – 936-598—2921 – is accepting walk-ins without appointments.

It is your choice on whether or not to get vaccinated but if you want to get vaccinated there are options already set up within Shelby County, please utilize them.

Please continue to stay safe and do your part in slowing down the spread of the Coronavirus.

Thank you,

Allison Harbison
