PINEYWOODS CATTLE CONGRESS TO BE HOSTED IN SHELBY COUNTY 

 

Cattleman from across the region will have a field day to look at boosting profitability on their livestock operations on Friday, June 4, 2021.  

 

This multi-county event will be held at the Red Gate Farm on County Road 4293 in Tenaha, Texas, the program is set to cover a variety of topics and provide 3 CEU’s (1 IPM, 2 General) to individuals with pesticide licenses.  

 

The first topic on the agenda is No Till Drill.  This will cover utilizing No Till Drill for planting annuals (winter and summer) to reduce weed populations while gaining maximum forage potential.  

 

Dr. Jason Cleere, Texas A&M Beef Cattle Specialist will lead a panel on Value Added Beef and will cover topics such as, calves pre-conditioning, stockers, and niche markets. 

 

A discussion about External Parasite Control will be presented by Dr. Derek Grant of Ward Animal Hospital.

 

Then, Darren Rozell of Rozell Ag Sprayers will give an update on herbicides and insecticides  

 

A fried fish lunch will be provided and there will be Akaushi/Wagyu meat available for sampling.   

 

Participants need to pre-register by calling the Texas AgriLife Extension Office in Shelby County at 936-598-7744 by Thursday, May 27, 2021 to get the early registration price of $20.  After that day (or at the gate) is $30.  

 

Registration will start at 8 a.m. with the program starting at 8:30 a.m. 

 

Participants need to bring their own lawn chair.
