Speed Limit Changes on US 190 Near Point Blank

LUFKIN – Texas Transportation Commissioners recently approved a reduced speed limit in San Jacinto County that will be enforceable once signs are set.

The speed limit change was approved on US 190 in San Jacinto County from the Walker County line to Point Blank West city limits. The speed limit will be lowered to 65 miles per hour from the Walker County line to 1 mile towards Point Blank. Continuing for approximately 1.9 miles toward Oakhurst, unincorporated, the speed limit will be lowered to 55 miles per hour. Continuing from mile point 3.9, for approximately 3.4 miles, the speed limit will be reduced to 65 miles per hour.

TxDOT has conducted the prescribed engineering and traffic studies to determine reasonable data that met state safety markers required to lower the speed limits on these segments of the state highway system.

Motorists should stay alert to the new speed limits as signs are placed. Obey all traffic control as crews place the new signage.
