San Augustine Hospital Receives Prestigious "Top Hospital" Award

SAN AUGUSTINE, TX (December 18, 2019)… For the second year in a row, CHI St. Luke’s Health-Memorial San Augustine has been nationally recognized as a Leapfrog Top Hospital for excellence.

“It takes leadership, teamwork and absolute dedication to patients, to achieve this award,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group.

“We are committed to serving our community and providing high-quality, safe care.  We know how important it is for our patients to feel confident in the care they receive,” Darlene Williams, VP of Operations, CHI St. Luke’s Health-Memorial San Augustine said.  “Our community can be proud of their local hospital.  Less than 6% of eligible hospitals earned Leapfrog Top Hospital status – and we are one of them!”

Research indicates Top Hospitals have better systems in place to prevent medication errors, higher quality on maternity care and lower infection rates, among other laudable qualities. Hospitals that are eligible to receive a Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade must have received an “A” in the most recent round of scoring to be eligible.

The award is not given to a set number of hospitals, but rather, to all teaching, general, rural, and children's hospitals that meet the high standards defined in each year's Top Hospital Methodology.

“CHI St. Luke’s Health-Memorial San Augustine is among the elite.  It is one of only two hospitals in Texas to receive Top Hospital status.  That speaks volumes about our staff’s commitment to putting patients and safety first,” Monte Bostwick, Market President and CEO said.

“Congratulations to our team for their hard work and to our patients for trusting us with their care.”

Of the 120 Top Hospitals recognized, 10 were Top Children’s Hospitals, 37 were Top General Hospitals, 55 were Top Teaching Hospitals and 18 were Top Rural Hospitals.
