Nacogdoches Man Arrested on Child Injury Charges

A Nacogdoches man has been jailed after an ongoing investigation revealed that he injured his four month old child. Cornelius Calloway 22 years of age was arrested by Sheriff’s Office Investigators and the Texas Rangers after giving a confession at the Sheriff’s Office Tuesday morning 10-15-2019.

The investigation started on Thursday 10-10-2019, when Sheriff’s Deputies and EMS were dispatched to a residence on Cr. 250 in reference to a sick call. Calloway reported to dispatch that his four month old son was unresponsive but breathing. The child was transported to a local hospital where it was later determined that the child had a skull fracture along with other injuries. The child was later transported to the Texas Children Clinic in Houston.

On Friday 10-11-2019 Sheriff Investigators and the Texas Rangers conducted a search warrant on the residence on Cr. 250. Evidence was collected at the scene and it was concluded that the child could not have sustained the severity of the injuries that the father had claimed by falling of the couch.

Cornelius Calloway was alone with his child at the time of the incident. All evidence supported that the child suffered the injuries by being physically assaulted.  On Tuesday morning, 10-15-2019, Sheriff Investigators, Texas Rangers and CPS conducted an interview with Calloway at the Sheriff’s Office. Calloway confessed that he lost his temper while watching his child and struck the child with his fist.

A warrant was later obtained for Calloway for injury to a child a 1st degree felony. Calloway was arrested at the Sheriff’s Office and booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail.
The four month old child remains in ICU at Texas Children’s hospital.
