Winter cold front downs power

Due to a winter cold front and wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour, people far and wide are dealing with widespread outages. Mother Nature has also caused extensive damage with downed trees and limbs not only blocking some secondary roadways but also falling on power lines. According to sources, some of the downed limbs on power lines have caused fires to breakout. The Shelby County Sheriffs Department has reported that TXdot was dispatched around 2 am and has been working most of the night to try and clear roadways. Represenatives from SWEPCO and Deep East Texas Electric Copperative indicate that numerous customers have reported outages across the coverage area. SWEPCO has reported 4,217 customers from Shelby County are without power, 5,736 from Panola County, and 13,050 from Rusk County. Due to issues with the transmission line, the entire city of San Augustine is without power and at this time, there is no indication as to when power will be restored. To report an outage with Swepco, call 1-888-218-3919 or with DeepEast Texas Electric Cooperative, call 1-888-392-5986.
