High Speed Chase Leads to the Death of a Bank Robbery Suspect

 

A Houston man died yesterday afternoon September 12, 2019, after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase that reached speeds of over 130 mph at times. An attempt to locate was placed out on a vehicle yesterday afternoon by the FBI in reference to a subject wanted for Bank Robbery out of the Houston area. Lufkin Police and PCT. 1 Constable located the vehicle in Lufkin and attempted to stop the car. The vehicle which was occupied by a lone driver refused to stop. A pursuit began from Angelina County on highway 59 into Nacogdoches County.

 

 

The bank robbery suspect reached speeds of over 130 mph during the pursuit in an attempt to evade law enforcement. The driver lost control of the vehicle while approaching Woodland Hills Golf Course causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and ultimately crashing into a tree after going airborne.

 

EMS and Nacogdoches Fire responded to the call, but the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. A handgun and a large amount of money were recovered from the vehicle. This evidence will be turned over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

 

The Texas Department of Public Safety is working the accident investigation and the identity of the driver will be released at a later time. The Lufkin Police Department, Precinct 1 Constables Office (Angelina County), Angelina County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Highway Patrol, and Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office were involved in the investigation.
