The local VFW Post 8904 and the Auxillary hosted a memorial service on September 11, 2019, in remembrance of 9-11 the day now known as Patriots Day. The event was held at 10 a.m. on the downtown Center city square on the grounds of the historic Shelby County Courthouse next to the flag pole by the Veterans memorial. Larry Hume VFW Post Quartermaster lead the event and gave the opening speech.

The podium was turned over to some of our local first responders including Center Fire Chief Keith Byndom, Center Police Chief Jim Albers, Shelby County Chief Deputy Kevin Windham, and Jessie Griffith with Alligenance Mobile Health.
