The United States Geological Survey confirmed a 2.8 magnitude earthquake took place at 1:38 p.m. Friday afternoon near Timpson. The USGS said the quake’s epicenter was about 3 miles southwest of Timpson, again near Lake Timpson, and was just over three-miles deep. Five other tremors have occurred in the Timpson area this year, the strongest being a 4.8 on May 17. There were reports of homes shaking and items falling from shelves, but no major damage is being reported. This is first registered earthquake in the area since June.
