Broaddus man jailed for stealing farm equipment

A Broaddus man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for stealing farm equipment in the Blackjack community near Chireno. 33-year old Terry Wayne Phipps, and an accomplice, Celeste Andrade, also of Broaddus, were originally arrested in January of this year. Phipps was arrested last Thursday on two state jail felony charges of theft between $1,500 and $20,000. Judge Campbell Cox of the 145th Judicial District Court in Nacogdoches sentenced Phipps. Precinct 4 Constable Jason Bridges said a neighbor spotted a suspicious vehicle entering a property and people from the pickup were seen loading equipment into the bed. After the neighbor notified the property owner, they attempted to confront the two, but they fled. The duo was later stopped on Hwy. 21 by a deputy constable, with the pickup loaded down with farm equipment. Phipps and Andrade were apparently taking the items to a scrap yard to sell as scrap metal.
