A Nacogdoches man is in custody after breaking into a residence on Cr. 521 yesterday afternoon June 26, 2019. The homeowner of the residence received a call from his neighbor advising him that he had observed a suspect break into the home owner’s residence and the suspect was still inside.  

 

The homeowner arrived home with a friend and started checking his house. During the search, a suspect was found hiding in the bathroom of the residence and was armed with a weapon.  


The suspect identified as Edgar Roberts had a machete in his hand and started fighting with the homeowner and the other person on the scene. An intense fight went on for several minutes between the men. The altercation started in the bathroom and ended up on the front porch.  The homeowner was able to get the machete away from the suspect and both men were able to detain the suspect.  


During the altercation, a neighbor called 911 to inform dispatch what was occurring. Sheriff Deputies arrived on scene shortly after and took the suspect into custody. 


Edgar Joel Roberts 20 years of age was transported to the Nacogdoches County Jail and charged with Burglary of a Habitation a 2nd felony and Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon 2nd felony. Bond was set at 45,000 dollars. Roberts remains in the Nacogdoches County Jail. 


Roberts received medical attention before being transported to the jail due to injuries he sustained during the altercation.
