Pedestrian Struck on 96 North

 

 

 

 

 

 


On June 3, 2019, at approximately 11:57 a.m. there was a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Highway 96 North. A male road crew employee identified as Damarious Penson of Houston working for Moore Brothers performing a job for TxDOT was struck by a road crew work truck driven by Joe Williamson 52 of Lufkin, right next to the E-Z Mart located at 1822 Tenaha St, Center, TX. 

 

 

 

 

According to an on the scene report, Damarious Penson was backed over by the road crew truck but was reported to still be alive. Allegiance Mobile Health transported him to the Nacogdoches Medical Center in Center located at 5529 TX-500 Loop, where he was later life-flighted to another Medical Facility. According to law enforcement due to all the noise in the area, the driver did not hear people calling out to stop backing up.

The Center Fire Department, Center Police Department, and Texas DPS all quickly responded on the scene, blockaded the area allowing medical personnel to retrieve the victim. Traffic has not resumed a slow pace as the road construction continues in our area.  Law enforcement officers are currently investigating this case.
