Tractor causes major damage to a home

A freak accident Monday involving a tractor at a residence on County Road 3090, caused major damage to a home. According to fire department personnel, a parked tractor, left running, at the William Nichols’ home, malfunctioned, jumped out of gear and crashed into the structure setting it ablaze. Fireman from Center and Shelbyville responded and found that the fire had been brought under control by members of the Nichols family with the help of a portable spray rig. The driver of the tractor said he had placed the tractor in gear to go inside for a drink, heard a crash, and found smoke coming from the porch area. There was also damage to an exterior wall of a bedroom.
