San Augustine County Chamber of Commerce Membership Meeting

At Tuesday’s San Augustine County Chamber of Commerce Membership Meeting, San Augustine Mayor Leroy Hughes told those in attendance, the City of San Augustine has received grant funding for several projects. Among those is $950,000 from economic development funding for construction of water and sewage lines to property on U.S. Hwy. 96 at the proposed site of the new Pinto Pony Cookie Factory. The new facility is expected to employ some 200 in its first stage. Mayor Hughes said the city expects to start extending city services to the area within 2 to 3 months. Also, San Augustine has plans to use a million dollars of monies received as part of Hurricane Ike Recovery Funding for street projects. Mayor Hughes added that a DETCOG grant has been received for the purchase of a portable recycling bin to be located at the trash transfer station, which could also be transported to Broaddus once a month. San Augustine County Chamber members were reminded of the Christmas in the Park and Parade on Nov. 30 and the Miss Merry Christmas Pageant on Dec. 1.
