On April 27, 2019, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputy Josh Tipton was on routine patrol in the Timpson area when he observed a black BWM sedan turn South onto U.S. Hwy 59. Deputy Tipton noticed the vehicle to have a temporary paper license tag on the rear and the expiration date was torn off.

Deputy Tipton initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as Kara Michelle Chambliss, 26, of Shelbyville. Upon contact with Chambliss, Deputy Tipton noticed her to be very nervous. Chambliss stated to Deputy Tipton she was trying to get to Houston. Deputy Tipton asked Chambliss if there was anything illegal in the vehicle and she replied, “Yes.”

Deputy Tipton asked for a verbal search of the vehicle and Chambliss produced a backpack from the back passenger seat and handed Deputy Tipton a plastic container. Inside the container, Deputy Tipton identified a pipe, a clear plastic bag containing 16 30mg Morphine pills, weighing 2.82 grams, two clear bags containing 10 Ecstasy pills, weighing 1.87 grams and .72 grams and a plastic bag containing mushrooms (Psilocybin mushroom/Hallucinogenic mushrooms) weighing 8.79 grams.

Chambliss was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Shelby County jail.

Chambliss was charged with Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 2 (F-1) $40,000 bond; Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1 (F-2) $15,000 bond; Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1 (F-4) $5,000 bond; and Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 3 (M-A) $1,500 bond.

Deputy Tipton was assisted by Deputy Jake Gross and Lieutenant Del Birdwell.

Chambliss posted bonds and was released April 29, 2019.
