San Augustine Tornado Damage Summary

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

San Augustine, Texas was hit by a terrible storm. An EF2 tornado stuck on April 24, 2019, with winds estimated to be up to 130 miles per hour. It touched down near County Road 1277 at 11:13 p.m. It uprooted and tore apart multiple trees as its path followed the road.

The storm widened and moved to Cedar Road where server tree damage led to 54 structures in a neighborhood being damaged. The storm continued and ripped the awning off of a gas station and broke the electrical transmission tower of a sub-station near the intersection of U.S. Route 96 and Texas Route 21.

The washeteria, several convenience stores, the Family Dollar, and several other businesses were either destroyed or received extensive damage as the storm moved across the northern side of downtown San Augustine.

Afterward, its path took it through the northern part of the city and it continued to break and uproot nearby trees along 353 and lifted before reaching the Shelby County line. The tornado dissipated at approximately 11:23 p.m.

As of 10:15 p.m. on April 25, 2019, power was restored to the San Augustine electrical sub-station. Crews are still working on repairing the downed poles and electrical lines to restore power to the residential areas. Be advised that all downed power lines should be considered active and dangerous.

There were no injuries or fatalities reported as of yet. The cleanup effort continues in San Augustine and the City of San Augustine is taking in donations at the San Augustine City Hall.
