The Timpson Bears came up short in their Class 1A, Div. I bi-district playoff game last night in Center, losing to West Sabine, 33-20. West Sabine added two fourth period scores to come away with the win and advance to the second round of the playoffs where they’ll meet Mart next week. The Bears see their season end with a 9-2 record, a complete turnaround from last season’s 1-9.

 

High School Football Playoffs, Bi-District Round Tonight:

 

(8-2) Center plays (7-3) Fairfield, 7:30 tonight at Lindale. The winner has the winner of the Lorena/Rockdale game, which is being played tonight in Killeen. Center defeated Fairfield, 26-23 with a field goal in overtime on Sept. 21st. Tickets are being sold at the gate, only. Adult tickets are $6, students $4. Center is the home team. A Roughrider Playoff Pep Rally will be at 1:20 this afternoon at the high school gym.

 

Center Broadcasting will have live coverage of tonight’s Center-Fairfield playoff game beginning with the Rider Stadium Pre-game Show at 7 on KDET and streaming online at cbc-radio.com. Rob Payne, Chris Watlington and the Rider Radio Team will be on hand to describe the action.

 

Other playoff games tonight:

 

(7-3) Garrison takes on (4-6) Paul Pewitt, 7:30 in Carthage. The winner advances to play Centerville.

(8-2) Carthage plays (7-3) Palestine, 7:30 in Lufkin. The winner has the winner of Waco LaVega/Taylor.

Joaquin , Tenaha and San Augustine have also qualified for the state playoffs, as they have first-round byes this week.

 

Joaquin’s first post-season opponent was determined last night as Bosqueville beats Colmesneil, 63-41 in Crockett. We’ll have the details of the Joaquin game as soon as they become available.

 

Tenaha will play Overton in the playoffs next week, as they defeat Wortham last night in Palestine, 34-7. Details of Tenaha’s playoff game will be known later today.

 

San Augustine will have to wait until Saturday night to see who they’ll play, as Iola is playing Axtell in Groesbeck.

 

Other playoff games tonight involving area teams: (8-2) Jasper vs. (6-4) Groesbeck, in Crockett; (6-3) Spring DeKaney vs. (7-3) Lufkin, Bowers Stadium, at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville.

 

The SFA Lumberjacks play their last game of the season at 6 Saturday night as they host Northwestern State in the Battle for Chief Caddo.

 

At the Martinsville basketball tournament Thursday, girls’ action: Martinsville defeats Timpson, 49-18, and Martinsville over Garrison, 55-16. Also Garrison beats Brookeland, 34-33 in girls’ play.

 

High school basketball this weekend: the Center Lady Riders continue play in the Slocum/Rusk Tourney thru Saturday; the Timpson Lady Bears and Garrison Lady Bulldogs are taking part in the Martinsville Tourney; the Tenaha Lady Tigers are playing in the Lovelady Tournament; the San Augustine Lady Wolves go to Huntington tonight; and the Shelbyville Dragons and Lady Dragons go to Hemphill this evening.
