20th Annual Milam Settlers Day

Organizers are saying the biggest and best Milam Settlers Day ever will be held in Milam today and Saturday. The two-day event will mark the 20th anniversary of the popular festival. A large number of vendors will be set up to sell their wares, and there will be lots of music (bluegrass, fiddlers, dulcimers, and singers). Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy this annual event.  The Bevil’s Rangers, a favorite attraction, will be returning to provide demonstrations of early Texas clothing, blacksmithing, pottery making, basket weaving, and cooking.  Shoppers are encouraged to get started early this morning as most vendors will be set up and ready to go. There will be a huge array of foods available as vendors will offer everything from barbecue to funnel cakes, including spiral fries, gumbo, baked goods of all kinds, stone ground cornmeal, roasted peanuts and pork rinds, popcorn, turkey legs, tamales, hamburgers and hot dogs.  There’s a full line-up of entertainment scheduled for Saturday. Children will enjoy pony rides and wagon rides.  This year's Milam Settlers Day Gumbo Cook-off on Saturday is going to be bigger and better than ever before!  Other highlights of this year's festival include a Classic Car Show, and Quilt Show. It’s estimated a crowd to exceed 5,000 over the course of the two days. For more information, call Ellen Melton at 409-625-4876 or check the website at milamsettlersday.org.
