LUFKIN – Crews will begin work next week in the nine-county Lufkin District after a recent pre-construction meeting signaled the beginning of annual sealcoating work that will be ongoing through June.

 

Two contracts for sealcoating were awarded. D.I.J. Construction, Inc., Bertram, TX, will serve as contractor for a $2.9 million project that will include sealcoating low-volume farm roads. Missouri Petroleum Products Company, LLC, St. Louis, MO, will serve as contractor for an $11 million project that will include sealcoating sections of higher volume roads. Work is scheduled to be completed by July 1, weather permitting.

 

Higher volume roads that are scheduled for sealcoating include US 59 in Shelby County; US 59 southbound in Polk County, US 59/SL 224 in Nacogdoches County, US 69 in Angelina County and US 190 in San Jacinto County. Other roads in the district scheduled for sealcoating include:

US 96, US 287, SH 147, SH 7, SH 21, SH 94, SH 150, SH 19, SH 87, FM 2261, FM 2661, FM 276, FM 3121, FM 1592, FM 705, FM 414, FM 2864, FM 706, FM 1271, FM 3126, FM 1514, FM 355, SL 500 in Center and SL 304 in Crockett.

 

Motorists should prepare for delays in and near these work zones. Reduce speed, stay alert and obey all signage and traffic control. Remember, these are moving work zones. Motorists should never try to enter or cross the lane where crews are placing sealcoat until the roadway is reopened.
