Update: More Election News

We’re finding out more results on the election for the District Judge in the First Judicial District, that includes 4- east Texas counties, where incumbent Craig Mixson was elected to a full-term. Judge Mixson won all four counties, taking 58 percent of the votes cast against Jennifer Jobe Seale. Almost 30-thousand voters in San Augustine, Sabine, Jasper and Newton Counties voted in that election. Judge Mixson was appointed to the bench by Governor Rick Perry in March of this year.

 

Results from some of the other elections Tuesday, included voter's in Sabine County's Precinct 1, voting in favor of both local option alcohol sale issues . The first option was for off premise beer and wine sales, and the second was the sale of mix drinks in restaurants.

 

Meanwhile, voters in Logansport decided to keep their current mayor. Logansport Mayor Katherine Freeman was re-elected by healthy margins. Freeman soundly bested challenger William David Downing with 80 percent of the 573 votes cast. The victory marks the second official term for Freeman. She was thrown into the political arena in November 2007 with the death of her husband, the former Mayor Dennis Freeman. She served out the year remaining in his term then ran for a full four-year term.

 

Tuesday’s election also settled who will serve on the town council in Logansport. Seven were vying for five seats. The top vote-getters were Norman Arbuckle, Judge Cordray, Martha Guillotte, Dale Morvan and Edith Williams.  Almost 72 percent of the registered voters in DeSoto Parish cast ballots during Tuesday’s election.
