Local High School Football News

Dave Campbell’s high school football rankings are out for Week 10, and the 8-1 Center Roughriders have moved up to No. 21 in the Class 3A rankings. Navasota remains the No. 1 Class 3A team. Carthage is No. 11, with Jasper at No. 24.  The 9-0 Joaquin Rams remain the No. 3 Class 1A, Div. I in the state. The 7-2 San Augustine Wolves have taken over No. 10 in the same state-wide poll. Mason is still No. 1. Meanwhile, in the 1A, Div. II rankings, Munday is No. 1.  Pearland Dawson is No. 1 in the Class 4A poll, with John Tyler No. 2; and the top team in Class 5A remains Katy.

This week’s high school football schedule has teams wrapping up the regular season. Jasper will be in Center as both teams are headed into the state playoffs. A Center win will have the Riders playing Grosbeck in the first round, and a loss, Center plays Fairfield.  Joaquin will wrap up the regular season at Harleton, as the Rams are a win away from the outright district title. Meanwhile, Timpson will be home to play Big Sandy. Both Joaquin and Timpson are playoff bound. The Rams would earn a first-round bye with a district championship.  The San Augustine Wolves will play their last game of the regular season as they go to Cushing Friday night. The Wolves captured the District 10-1A, Div. I championship beating Alto last week. The Shelbyville Dragons still have an outside shot at post-season, but they must beat Alto this week.  The Tenaha Tigers have also claimed the championship of District 11-1A, Div. II, and will be in Sabine Pass Friday night to play their final regular season game. Tenaha will have a first-round bye in the playoffs.  The Garrison Bulldogs have clinched a playoff berth, and will host Union Grove in the district finale this week.
