Pay raises denied, grievance remains

San Augustine Commissioner’s Court began their meeting Tuesday with a report on the Salary Grievance Committee Recommendation last week. Judge Samye Johnson serves as the non-voting Chairman of the Committee that considered the salary grievances of all Justice of the Peace Judges and Constables.  The Grievance Committee voted seven to two in favor of recommending a pay increase in the amount of $674.95, an 8.6135% increase. However, commissioners voted to reject the recommendation which has caused an uproar since both the Commissioners and the Sheriff have received pay increases the past two years in spite of tough economic times.
