Community Spotlight of the Week

It’s now time for the Center Broadcasting Community Spotlight of the Week. This Week’s Community Spotlight will be shedding light on a man who paved the way for others. We would like to highlight Mr. Jack Barron. Jack Barron is a Center native and a 1930 graduate of Center High School. Jack went on to graduate from Texas A&M in 1933 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Jack has worked for the Texas State Highway Department as well as the Texas Forrestry Service. Jack takes pride in knowing that he helped build the state roads between Center and Nacogdoches along with the roads between Tenaha and Center. For many years, Jack owned and operated a lumber yard and paint store in Center named Builder's Supply. Jack also spent many years as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher at the first Baptist Church. Many people may not know that Jack is also an avid reader as well as a self published poet. Jack was married for 72 years up until the passing of his best friend a few years ago. When Jack was asked "What the key to living a long life was," he responded by saying, "To treat everybody right and to go to bed with a clear conscience." Jack Barron will be celebrating his 100th birthday Saturday, October 6th. We want to thank Center Native Jack Barron for his hard work and dedication to the place he calls home.
