Shelby County Constable Pct. 2 nominee disqualified

Shelby County Democratic Party Chairman Benny Russell has confirmed in a press release that the Democratic nominee for Shelby County Constable Pct. 2, has been disqualified from the November General Election.  Russell did not mention the candidate’s name in his release, but Center Broadcasting was able to confirm through election records, that incumbent Constable Shad Sparks, violated the Election Code by submitting his application and filing fee to the Shelby County Democratic Party to have his name placed in nomination in the Democratic Primary; however, on May 29, the day of the primaries, he chose to vote in the Republican Primary. Russell said by doing this, Sparks became ineligible for a place on the ballot for the succeeding General Election.  Russell said this was an unfortunate situation, and he certainly sympathized with the candidate. However, this did not happen because of dirty politics, or the personal efforts of another candidate, individual or group to remove this individual from office. Russell went on to say the only individual responsible for this disqualification is the individual himself.
