Center Broadcasting Community Spotlight of the Week

It’s now time for the Center Broadcasting Community Spotlight of the Week.  This Week’s Community Spotlight will be shedding light on a man who is a true American Hero.  We would like to highlight Mr. Earl Brannon.  Earl Brannon is a Tenaha native and Vietnam War veteran.  Brannon served as a combat medic in the Medical Army Division assigned to Alpha Company, 5th/46th Infantry Battalion.  On March 2, 1970,  Brannon didn't hesitate as he moved through a heavily mined area to a wounded comrade’s position. Fully aware of the possibility of additional enemy activity, he skillfully began administering emergency first aid to the wounded soldier. While treating his comrade, Private Brannon was severely wounded when a second well-concealed explosive device was triggered. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he denied himself medical attention until his fallen comrade was treated.  Not only were Brannon’s actions instrumental in saving the life of his comrade but also his actions in the minefield gave inspiration to his entire unit.  An award for Private Earl Brannon's act of Valor was published in July of 1970, however Brannon never received it.  Finally years later, on September 15, 2012 Earl Brannon was awarded the Silver Star, the nation’s third-highest award for valor at his Army division’s annual reunion in Atlanta, Georgia. We want to thank Tenaha Native Earl Brannon for his acts of heroism and selfless service to this country.
