Texas Man Killed in DeSoto Parish Crash

DeSoto Parish – Just before 8:00 p.m. on 10-15-18, Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a two-vehicle crash on US 84 east of LA 763 that claimed the life of a Texas man.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2007 Ford Focus driven by 55-year-old David Franklin Bigger of Joaquin, Texas was stopped on the shoulder of US 84 facing east.

For reasons still under investigation, the Focus attempted to make a left turn from the shoulder directly into the path of an eastbound 2019 Volvo 18-wheeler driven by 31-year-old Jerome Christopher of Mansfield, Louisiana.  The 18-wheeler struck the Focus in the driver’s door.

Bigger was transported to DeSoto Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead due to the severity of his injuries.  A 20-year-old passenger, Mallory Arbuckle of Logansport was transported to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport with serious injuries.  A second passenger, 30-year-old Brittany Barber of Center, Texas received minor injuries.  Christopher received minor injuries.

All occupants were properly restrained at the time of the crash.  Toxicology samples were taken and submitted for analysis.    This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that avoiding all distractions, obeying the posted speed limit, avoiding fatigued driving, and being properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death.

In 2018, Troop G has investigated 13 fatal crashes resulting in 13 deaths.
