TxDOT Update - LOWER SPEED LIMIT TO BE SET THROUGH WORK ZONE

Work schedules and updates for Oct. 15-19

LUFKIN – Motorists traveling US 69 South between Huntington and Zavalla in Angelina County will see lower speed limit signs placed next week indicating new work zone speed limits.

From Huntington to near Zavalla, the speed limit will be reduced from 70 mph to 60 mph through the work zone. In Zavalla, the speed limit will drop from 55 mph to 45 mph through the work zone. This $59.7 million project is designed to widen the roadway from two lanes to a four-lane divided roadway from FM 844 to FM 1270, south of the city of Zavalla. The project is scheduled for completion in August, 2022.

“We want motorists to slow down in all of our work zones for obvious safety reasons,” said Rhonda Oaks, Lufkin District public information officer. “This is a big construction project with lots of truck traffic and we want the public to be aware and prepare to slow down. The lower speed limits will be enforceable as soon as the signs are placed.”
