VFW Post 8904 9-11 Patriots Day Memorial

 

 

 

 

 

 

17 years ago today Americans were attacked on our own soil.  The terrorist attack on 9-11-01 changed the lives of Americans.  This morning 9-11-18 at 10 a.m. the local VFW Post 8904 and the Auxiliary held a wreath-laying ceremony on the downtown Center city square.  The event was held in honor of all our first responders and all those who perished in the process of saving lives on that day 17 years ago September 11th, 2001.  VFW Post 8904 Quartermaster Larry Hume was the main speaker for today's event.  
 
 
 

 
 
After welcoming the crowd Mr. Hume turned over speaking to Bro. McSwain who said the opening prayer. After this Mr. Hume said a few words following him local first responders: Center Fire Chief Kieth Byndom, Center PD Officer Jeremy Bittick, Shelby County Sheriff Willis Blackwell, and David Day with Allegiance Mobile Health ambulance service all said a few words.  
 
 
A wreath was placed on the Veterans Memorial by a Center Police officer in honor of our first responders.  Taps was played by a member of the VFW and the crowd joined in to sing with Leigh Porterfield as she sang America the Beautiful.  After the program ended the crowd gathered to take a group photograph.
