Community Spotlight of the Week

It’s now time for the Center Broadcasting Community Spotlight of the Week.  This Week’s Community Spotlight will be shedding light on a man who has provided selfless service, no matter the weather, rain or shine.  We would like to highlight Mr. Jim Forbes.  Back in 1968, a Channel 12 meteorologist asked Jim if they could place a weather station on his property temporarily until another location could be found.  Jim jumped at the opportunity to assist the United States Weather Service.  As fate would have it, Jim has always supplied East Texans with important weather information, thanks to the weather station that still sits on the Forbes property forty-four years later.  Jim worked for the USDA Soil Conservation Service for 20 years and was also a volunteer fireman for 31 years.  In 1993, Jim was elected to a seat on the Center City Council where he has served continuously for the past 18 years.  Over the years, Jim has also found time to write numerous articles for local newspapers.  Above all, Jim is a dedicated family man.  Jim and his wife, Anna, have been married for 59 years and have three children, eight grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.  We want to thank Jim Forbes for his many years of dedicated service to not only the City of Center but also East Texas.
