THOUSANDS EXPECTED TO ATTEND WORLD SERIES IN CENTER, TEXAS

Tournament Projected to Have Large Economic Impact

CENTER, Texas (June 22, 2018) – The Dixie Regional World Series tournament will be in
Center, Texas, from Friday July 20 through Monday July 23, and is projected to have a huge
economic impact in this town with 6,000 population.

“We are expecting 40 teams to participate in the World Series,” said Jason Mitchell, Center’s
Recreation Director, “and these teams are coming from Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and
Mississippi.” Each team will average 12 players and with family members this should translate
into nearly 2,000 visitors for the World Series weekend. The impact will affect area retailers
and hotels. “We expect this tournament will require at least 400 hotel rooms. We have been
told that teams are already booking hotels in Carthage and Nacogdoches.”

“A large tourist event, such as this is a great economic opportunity for our community,”
explained Center Mayor David Chadwick. The dollars that a visitor brings is spent here, then
circulated several more times in town. “We could easily see a quarter of a million dollars of
economic impact from the tournament weekend. So, it is very important that our guests are
encouraged to spend at locally owned businesses.” Local businesses have an opportunity to
advertise in the Tournament program book or by sponsoring tournament events. All sponsors
and advertisers will be featured on the Tournament App.

According to local restaurant owner Rose Specter, the mid-summer was one of their slowest
times before the City started recruiting tournaments. “We definitely went from losing money
during those months to making money. Every year our sales gets better with the tournaments.”
To facilitate communication and information, the World Series will have a mobile app. Simply
download the Attendify app and search for DYB to stay current on this event.

Anyone interested in sponsoring, staffing the tournament, or being a host family should visit the
City website at www.CenterTexas.org or contact Jason Mitchell at 936-590-7196.
