Sabine County Wreck

 

 

 

SABINE COUNTY, TX – Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers
investigated this afternoon a two vehicle crash on US 96 about one mile north of
Devils Creek that resulted in two fatalities.
 
The preliminary crash investigation indicates a 2006 Chevrolet SUV was traveling
north on US 96 at approximately 4:45 p.m. Investigators believe the SUV
hydroplaned and crossed over into the southbound lane and struck a 2017 Ford
pickup head-on.
 
The driver and passenger in the SUV were both pronounced deceased at the scene
of the crash. The driver is identified as Scott Morris, 51, from Mittie Louisiana.
The passenger is identified as Kandy Nichols, 45, also from Mittie Louisiana. A
five year-old child in the SUV was also injured in the crash and transported to a
Jasper Hospital for treatment.
 
The driver of the pick-up is identified as Sammy Jones, 52, from Wiergate, TX.
Jones was also transported to a Jasper hospital with unknown injuries.
This crash remains under investigation. No additional information is available at
this time.
