TxDOT Update

LUFKIN - Traffic is expected to be moved to its final configuration in coming days on US 59 in a major construction project in San Jacinto County.  Embankment work and grading operations are scheduled throughout the project that has added a southbound frontage road and reconstructed the main lanes of US 59 from just south of the United Pacific Railroad in Shepherd to just north of FM 2914. Texas Sterling Construction Co., Houston, is contractor for the $8.9 million project.

A second adjacent project was designed to construct a grade separation and close the crossovers from 1 mile north of FM 2914 to 1 mile south of FM 2914 in San Jacinto County. Lone Star Road Construction, Houston, was the contractor for the $12.9 million project, which was completed earlier this year. Crews will also be completing upgrades to metal beam guard railing through the work zone from just south of FM 2914 to the Liberty County line.  As this major construction project nears completion, motorists should stay alert to moving machinery, changing traffic configurations and trucks entering and exiting the highway.
