Special Meeting of the Shelby County Commissioners' Court

On July 13th, a special meeting of the governing body of the Shelby County Commissioners' Court was assembled in the Courtroom of the Shelby County Courthouse. Shelby County Judge Rick Campbell opened the meeting and then adjourned to executive session. Following executive session the Commissioners' Court reconvened. Judge Campbell made a motion and it was then seconded by Commissioner Rodgers. A settlement of $260,000 will be offered to the plaintiffs in hopes of settling the lawsuit. Precinct 4 Constable agrees to the Consent Agreement before the Court. The Court agrees to buy the video equipment and pay for the monitor. The Sheriff and the other four (4) Constables will be left out of the Consent Agreement. The motion was modified to include the Commissioners' Court's request that the District Attorney's office be allowed to participate in the agreement. The motion carried out and the meeting was adjourned. It should be noted that the above stated terms are not a final settlement of the lawsuit until the Plaintiffs accept the terms as authorized by the Commissioners' Court. If the plaintiffs reject the settlement terms for any reason, then negotiations will resume.
