We wish you a very Happy Good Friday and Easter this weekend.  Take the little ones to Mission Dolores on Saturday for their “Egg-Stravaganza” to make confetti eggs, also known as cascarones, from 1pm to 3pm.  Program is designed for ages 10 and younger, no charge.  Call 275-3815 for details.
 
Remember to join us at the Monthly Membership Meeting next Tuesday, April 18th.  We’ll be hearing about our local 4-H programsand agriculture in schools, and enjoying catering by one of our  newest members, Shani’s Catering out of Center.  Our April Business of the Month is Texas Star Retail, and they have so many things going on – be sure to stop in to see them tomorrow, Good Friday, April 14th, to meet the Easter Bunny!  Bring your own camera for pictures, and maybe even take home a little live bunny of your own.  Don’t forget to visit the consignment room while you are there!  Texas Star is at 106 W Columbia, on the Square in San Augustine.
 
Relay for Life is coming up on Friday, May 12th around the Square in downtown San Augustine, from 7pm to 1am.  Register at http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?pg=entry&fr_id=82832  or call (800) 227-2345 for more registration options.  If you aren’t able to join the relay that evening, there are a some really easy ways to show your support:  This Saturday, 4/15, San Augustine Subway is offering a profit share of 25% all day long, breakfast, lunch & dinner.  Just say “Relay for Life” as you check out – thank you, Carter Enterprises!  Two more options are coming up next week -  the Colonial Pines Cruisers are having a Chicken Spaghetti Fundraiser (plate also includes green beans, garlic bread, and dessert for just $7) benefitting Relay for Life, with plates to be delivered on April 19th.  AND, they are having a Burger & Bingo Night on Friday April 21st that is also a Relay Fundraiser!  $15 gets you a Burger Dinner and 2 Bingo Cards.  Call (936) 275-3412 to place your order for the Chicken Spaghetti, or to RSVP for Bingo Night.  
 
And there are two more fun ways to support the San Augustine Elementary Relay team - they are having a Crawfish Boil starting at 11am on Saturday, 4/22, just $6.00 for a plate, stop by the drop off zone at the school to get yours.  Plus, the Flamingos are back!!  If you'd like to 'flock' someone's yard with pink flamingos for just $20, go by the school to fill out your request!!  
 
OH - and CONGRATULATIONS to SAHS teacher Mary Whittlesey on being awarded State Citizenship Teacher of the Year!
 
Are you ready for the Heritage Festival?    Surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature this day will recognize the historical significance of cultures native to San Augustine over the last 300 years, beginning with the establishment of the 1717 Mission Dolores.   There will be musical entertainment, announcement of Texas Treasure Business Awards, a classic car show, tours of the recently restored 1919 Jail,  cultural heritage demonstrations, food, shopping, vendors, art,  reenactments, 10 of our East Texas Authors, a history scavenger hunt for our younger set, and much more!  Around the square in San Augustine on April 22nd.  The Texas Treasure 
 
Business Awards ---an award given by the Texas Historical Commission will be presented at 12:30 at the Main Stage, this year the businesses recognized include  Garner and Sons Funeral Home, since 1927; Heart Strings of East Texas,   since 1966, and Wyman Roberts Funeral Home,  since 1938.  We will also enjoy distinguished speakers and a cannon blast!  
 
 
As soon as the dust settles from Heritage Fest it’s time to RODEO!  Back for the second year, the San Augustine County Pro Rodeo on April 28th & 29th will feature events such as Team Roping, Bull Riding, Breakaway Roping, Barrel Racing, Saddle Bronc Riding, Bareback Riding, Steer Wrestling, Tie Down Roping, Calf Scramble and Mutton Busting!  Vendor spaces and Truck Spots are going fast, call the Chamber for details! 
 
AgriLife Extension Service is offering a ‘Do Well, Be Well’ program for people with Type 2 Diabetes or their caregivers, with weekly classes including a healthy lunch!  Just $25 covers the full course of information and five lunches,  with sessions 12pm-2pm on Wednesdays,  4/26-5/25 at the Log Cabin.  Call Sandy Jenkins at 275-3644 for more info or to register, or email her at sandy.jenkins@ag.tamu.edu.
 
Got some stuff you’ve been meaning to let go of?   The first Saturday in May just may be the biggest Junk in the Trunk of the year, since it coincides with Sale on the Trail, 200 miles of garage sales along the El Camino Real (Hwy 21) from Natchitoches to Nacogdoches on Fri & Sat May 5th & 6th!  Talk about shop til you drop…  Keep an eye on the Facebook page for more info - https://www.facebook.com/SaleontheTrail/
 
The San Augustine Library is now offering a weekly Story Hour for preschool children and their parents, come join the fun at 10 am each Wednesday for reading and crafts!  Call the Library with questions, 275-5367.  
 
Our local VFW Post #9313 is starting an auxiliary for family members of eligible veterans (those who were saw action or were deployed overseas during their service) even if the vet is not a member – call Paul Lester for details at (936) 596-6400.
 
Another great event for vets is the 'Veterans Stand Down' sponsored by DETCOG on Thursday, April 20th, from 9am to 3pm at the Civic Center in Lufkin.  'Adopt a Vet' for this this free event to benefit homeless veterans and offers info on housing and other assistance, survival bags, and goodies.  Call Veronica Thomas with DETCOG at (800) 256-6848 for more info. Veterans should bring their military ID with them.
