Shelby County Grill Fest


The Shelby County Grill Fest Barbecue Cook-off will be Saturday, April 8 at the Windham Civic Center in Center, Texas, with cook teams from across east Texas and western Louisiana vying for over $6,700 in prize money and the Grand Champion trophy along with bragging rights.  
The barbecue cook-off is, presented by Farmers State Bank, and sanctioned by the Lone Star Barbecue Society. The event will feature four cooking categories including beans, brisket, chicken and ribs.  The Grill Fest committee is seeking individuals that would like to be judges for the event.  Please call the Chamber office or sign up at the entrance gates. Gates will open at 9:00 a.m.
A 42 Tournament will begin Friday night, April 7, at 7:00 p.m. at Sombreros Restaurant, with the finals on Saturday at the Civic Center. Players may pre-register at the Chamber or register on-site Friday. The entry is $10 per person. Rules may be obtained at
Gates open at the Civic Center at 9:00 a.m. for spectators. An all-day, come and go wristband is $10 for the outdoor activities. The crowd will be entertained with music presented by the Windham Civic Center with DJ Jesse. 
Entries are being accepted for the Washer Pitchin’ Contest, sponsored by Shelby Savings Bank, at the Chamber office until Friday, April 7 or can register at entrance gates beginning at 10:00 a.m. with contest beginning at 1:00 p.m. The entry fee is $10 per person.  Visit for rules.
Tasting samples from Grill Fest will be shared throughout the event at the cook team stations to those with McDonald’s wristbands.  An awards presentation, sponsored by the City of Center, will round out the day’s events at 4:00 p.m. Gold sponsors for the cook-off are Tyson Foods and Roughrider Tire Service.
