SAN AUGUSTINE COUNTY AIRPORT GETS TxDOT FUNDING

The Texas Transportation Commission approved in February $460,000 in Federal and state grant funds for the San Augustine County Airport. The funds will be used for planned airport improvements, including constructing pavement and lighting improvements.

The project costs are funded through San Augustine County and TxDOT's Aviation Facilities Grant Program, which preserves and improves the state's general aviation system. A project bid is expected to be approved before summer.

In 2017, TxDOT expects to provide approximately $60 million in funding for planning, constructing and maintaining community airports. There are 275 community airports in Texas currently eligible for the funding. In addition, community airports account for more than three million flight hours per year in arrivals and departures, providing aircraft facilities for agricultural, medical, business and commuter use.

Motorists and airport visitors are urged to be cautious and workers and equipment begin this project. Obey all signage and warnings through the construction area and remember that fines double when workers are present.
