Center ISD Donates Land for Park Expansion

Center ISD School Board President, James Greer, signed the deed
transferring a donated 3.2 acres of land to the city of Center for the
Portacool Park Expansion on October 21, 2016.

During the spring of 2015, City of Center representatives approached
Center ISD officials to solicit the district's assistance for expansion of
the current mini park off Tenaha street. The assistance included the
submittal of a letter of support to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Grant
Funding Division with the intent to access resources for such development.

If the grant application was approved, the district's support included the
donation of land adjacent to Center Intermediate School.

A few months after submission, the grant was approved coupled with the
financial contribution and commitment from Portacool, thus making the
expansion and improvement a reality.

On November 12, 2015, the Center ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved
to convey, with a deed, approximately 3.2 acres of property to the City of
Center to expand the current mini park. Nearly 11 months later, the
warranty deed was presented to the district for signature. Soon thereafter
Center ISD Board President, James Greer signed the deed officially and
permanently transferring ownership to the City of Center.

“Center ISD is grateful for and enjoys the many and various opportunities
to serve the community,” Center ISD Superintendent Dr. James Hockenberry
said. “The named Portacool Park will be a beautiful attraction and addition
to the city landscape. Center ISD sincerely appreciates Mayor David
Chadwick, the City Council, and Ben Wulf, President and CEO of Portacool
and others for their vision and cooperative spirit.”
