DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office New Alert System

DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office and the DeSoto Parish Office of Homeland

Security and Emergency Preparedness, in conjunction with the DeSoto Parish
Policy Jury, has launched a new system to keep the public informed of
important events throughout DeSoto Parish. The alert system will be used to
alert residents of approaching severe weather, possibility of flooding,
chemical releases, and other emergency situations. It will provide
information on evacuations, such as evacuation routes, shelter locations,
and when the areas are deemed safe for the public. We also intend to use
the system to update residents on matters such as road closures in the
Parish. The system allows an alert to be sent to one certain area or
throughout the entire Parish depending on the type of event. The alerts can
be sent as a text message to wireless numbers, a voice call to residential
lines and/or an e-mail registered e-mail accounts. All residents are
encouraged to sign up if you’d like to receive these types of
notifications. Signup is free and easy - you can opt in to these alerts by
texting your zip code to 888777 or by going to www.nixle.com
