Shelby County 4-H Sewing Sensations Class a Success

The Shelby County 4-H Sewing Sensations class wrapped up August 10, 2016 after eight weeks of learning how to use a sewing machine, creating various stitches, making a pillow case, and the highlight of the lesson series, designing and creating a cabin-patch lap quilt.  The participants are excited to have finished their quilt projects so that they can enter them in the upcoming Poultry Festival Quilt Show.

Eight youth ages 9 – 16 participated in this fun, hands-on learning experience.  The Texas Extension Education Association XYZ Homemaker’s Club led the project and provided valuable sewing tips to the group.  A special thank you to Jenny Salter for her expertise and leadership during this project.
This fun 4-H project will continue this fall under the direction of project leader Ann Blackwell.  We will be learning more about sewing, creating fashion projects from recyclables, developing a duct tape design, choosing color and themes to tell a fashion story, and working as team to create a wearable piece from a refashioned item.  The project participants will then showcase their fashion designs at the District 5 4-H Fashion Show in April 2017.

To learn more about this 4-H project and many other youth learning opportunities, be sure to attend the Shelby County 4-H Kick-off Event on Sunday, August 28th beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Community House in Center.
