Panola College Roy Monk Building Ribbon Cutting & Tour

On August 18, 2016, Panola County Chamber of Commerce, Panola College Board
of Trustees and community members will gather to enjoy refreshments and
perform a ribbon cutting at 10:00 am for Panola College’s newly renovated
Roy Monk Building. The Roy Monk Building was originally built in 1965, and
at that time the Building featured a lecture hall, labs, classrooms, and
eight faculty offices. The renovation over the past year has brought new
aspects and technological advancements to the Building while maintaining
its original aesthetic feel.

Upon entrance into the Roy Monk Building, the grand foyer displays its
original rock and brick walls and with the addition of modular art panels,
the well-lit environment will be an excellent place for students to gather
and study. Located in the north wing of the Building are several faculty
offices and a small conference room that will be utilized by faculty and
staff. One unique feature of the Building is the rapid water bottle filling
station. The station is three times faster than a standard drinking
fountain and minimizes plastic bottle waste in the environment. The Roy
Monk Building also boasts a state-of-the-art lecture hall that seats
approximately 80 students. The lecture hall is equipped with modern digital
technology that allows instructors to engage and motivate students. As
technology is such an important aspect in today’s learning environment, the
Roy Monk Building provides five new computer labs that contain more than
175 computers. These labs will be utilized for instruction and testing
purposes. A traditional classroom is also located in the remodeled Building
for instructional use.
