Tenaha ISD Hires New Assistant Band Director

 

 

 

Tenaha ISD recently hired Shannon Landrum as Assistant Band Director.   Mrs. Landrum is a highly qualified band director with a Masters Degree, and 7 years of teaching experience.    Tenaha Director of Bands, Brian Sours, describes the recent hire. “When we realized we would have an opening this year, we sought to find the most qualified assistant band director we could.”  Sours continued “We were specifically searching for an experienced woodwind specialist to complement our current band staff, but also someone that brought the type of experience and pedagogy needed to take our band program to the next level.  We felt that Mrs. Landrum fit the bill in every category.”   Sours ended by saying “In the end, it is always our goal in Tenaha to find the most competent music educators we can to teach our band students.”  Mrs. Landrum will begin teaching Tenaha students during summer band camp which begins on July 25th.  Below is a short bio and picture of Mrs. Landrum.
 
Shannon Landrum is a 2009 Music Education Graduate of the University of Texas- Arlington.  At UTA, she performed with the marching and concert band, was the clarinet section leader, and chapter president of the band-affiliated sorority Tau Beta Sigma.  Shannon is originally from Shawnee, Oklahoma and graduated from Prague High School where she was a three-time small school all-state student. 
Mrs. Landrum recently received her Masters Degree in Education Administration from Lamar University and her band was awarded Sweepstakes in 2015.  Shannon spent several years as an Assistant Band Director in Beaumont, Texas.  While teaching in Beaumont, she was also a Curriculum Writer, a member of the District Education Improvement Committee, and a mentor teacher. She was also a member of the Calvary Baptist Church Orchestra where she met her husband Chris.  Mrs. Landrum is entering her eighth year of teaching and looking forward to becoming a Tenaha Tiger.
