Polk County, TX - On Tuesday May 17, at approximately 10:15 a.m., Polk County

DPS troopers responded to and investigated a two vehicle crash on US 59 just

south of Livingston. The preliminary crash investigation indicates a 2004 Toyota

pickup was traveling northbound on US 59 when the vehicle drove off the left edge

of the roadway then overcorrected to the right, then back to the left where the

vehicle entered the grass median, overturned and slid into the southbound lanes of

US 59 where it was struck by a 2010 Nissan Altima. The driver of the Toyota pick

was identified as McKenna Veal, 20, from Cleveland, TX. The driver of the Nissan

was identified as Tonya Brister, 50, from Onalaska, TX. Brister was pronounced

deceased at the scene by a Polk County Justice of the Peace. Veal was reportedly

not injured as a result of the crash. This crash remains under investigation. No

additional information is available at this time.
