Obituary: Virginia Lou Allbritton Jetton

Virginia Lou Allbritton Jetton, 87, a former Center resident, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015 in her Longview, Texas, home, after a long illness.

 

Services are scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., Mangum Funeral Home Chapel in Center with Bro. Carl Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park. A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015 at Mangum Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

 

Virginia graduated from Stephen F. Austin State Teachers’ College in Nacogdoches, Texas, and for many years taught in the Center public school system, where she enjoyed having a positive impact on her students.  Above all, she cherished her family, and was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She set an example of enjoying life while meeting life’s challenges with grace and dignity.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell Dean Jetton, a teacher, coach and owner of an insurance agency in Center, in 2003 and daughter, Julie Virginia Jetton. She was also predeceased by her parents, Grace and Henry Allbritton; two brothers, Harry and George Allbritton; brother-in-law, Ralph Yerby, Sisters-in-law, Marie Rane and Maurine Dean and Brother-in-law, James L. Dean.

 

She is survived by her daughters, Marcia Jetton Alderman and her husband, Alvis, of Commerce; Michele Jetton Black and her husband, John, of Longview; and her son, Stephen Mitchell Jetton and his wife, Irene, of Chicago, Ill, her sister, Maribelle Allbritton Yerby, of Zwolle, La.;  Other survivors are grandchildren Charles Alderman and his wife, Sarah, of Commerce; James Alderman of Commerce; Michael Black and his wife, Crista, of Longview; Joshua Black and his wife, Libby, of Longview; and Sarah Black Beasley and her husband, Jonathon, of Longview. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren; Colton & Tessa Alderman, Cameron & Connor Black and Ruthie, Jude & Will Black.
