DECEASED NAME FOR NEWS: Lurline Hancock Weatherly

Lurline Hancock Weatherly, age 86 years, went to be with her Lord and Savior, on September 19, 2015.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 24, 2015, at Garrison Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 25, 2015, at Garrison Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Preston Weatherly officiating, assisted by Jerry Weatherly.  Graveside service will follow at 4:00 p.m. at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery on I-45 in Houston with Rev. Bill Bridges officiating.

Ms. Weatherly was born in Garrison, Texas, on September 17, 1929, to Herman Hancock and Lilly Bell Rector Hancock.  Her mother went to be with the Lord when she was four years old.  Her father married her step-mother, Bernice Kruse Hancock, who raised her until she married at the age of 15 years, to her husband, Jack Weatherly.  They married after World War II and their marriage lasted 68 years.

They eventually moved to Houston, Texas, where they spent the early part of their lives raising their son, Jack, Ray, Jr., and daughter, Mary.  While living in Houston, Lurline’s life was filled with family, service to the Lord, her church and helping anyone that she could.  There were many times that family and friends would stay with them while they got an education, looked for work or whatever the case may have been.  She never passed up an opportunity to tell family and friends about God and His love for them.

Lurline and Jack moved back to Garrison, in 1971 and Jack opened his own welding business.  She was still involved in the church and became known as Miss WMU (Woman’s Missionary Union) in Shelby-Doches Association, where she served many years.  Mission work was a deep part of her life.  She was part of a mission trip to Brazil and also in helping start two new churches, one in Houston and one in Nacogdoches.
