Mental exam ordered on former Center ISD teacher accused of murder in Panola County

In Panola County, 123rd District Court Judge Charles “Brick” Dickerson has said the woman charged with killing her husband will undergo a psychological examination to see if she’s competent for trial.

Judge Dickerson granted a motion Wednesday for 49-year old Sarah Gilpatrick Venable of the Murvaul Community to have the mental exam to see if she was insane at the time of the alleged murder of Jay Venable in April.

Venable’s court appointed attorney filed the motion for the exam. The incident was reportedly brought on by a verbal domestic argument over Ms. Venable losing her job.

Sarah Veneable is a former Center ISD Middle School teacher who resigned in February.

She remains in the Panola county Detention Center with bond of $500,000.
