Center City Council approves resolution to participate in funding for airport improvements

The City of Center Council has given approval of a resolution that will commit the city to a 10 percent local match for preliminary engineering and design fees for facility lighting and electrical system repairs at Center Municipal Airport.

The city's match is $16,500, and according to City Manager Chad Nehring, the city has been attempting to get these repairs done at the airport for some five years.

Also at Monday night's council meeting, renewal of employee health insurance coverage was approved through the Texas Municipal League.

Nehring told council the group portion is experiencing a 12 percent increase in premiums. He added staff has explored options including alterations to plan benefits and other potential providers.

The Shelby County Appraisal District Fiscal Year 2015 Budget was presented at the meeting and showed a substantial increase in the annual amount for funding from the city.

Nehring said increases are primarily for employee benefits and property mapping/reappraisal. City of Center's portion of the 2016 proposed appraisal district budget is $36,000, or some 5 percent of the district's $724,000 budget.
