Truck-train collision investigated on Bland Lake Road in San Augustine County, driver receives minor injuries early Tuesday

DPS is investigating a truck-train collision that occured in San Augustine County early Tuesday morning.

According to DPS Corporal Jimmy Faulkner an empty salt-water disposal truck, (a 2004 Kenworth tractor) belonging to MKO Trucking in Shelbyville, and driven by 25-year old Leon Hardaway of Center was headed west on FM 1279, the Bland Lake Road, and the driver reports the brakes failed to operate resulting in the tractor-trailer striking the moving train just before 3 a.m.

Corporal Faulkner said the train, operated by Timber Rock, never knew the incident occurred, with the engineer continuing northward. He said he was able to track the train down to Tenaha.

Hardaway was taken by San Augustine County EMS to CHI-San Augustine for minor injuries, treated and released.

Corporal Faulkner cited Hardaway for failure to stop for a train, saying skid marks left on the roadway proved the brakes were working properly.

He noted his investigation continues.
