DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office involved in pursuit on I49

Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle would like to inform the public of a pursuit which involved DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office on Interstate 49 on June 21, 2015 at about 10:10 a.m.

The pursuit was initiated in Natchitoches Parish by the Sheriff's Office around the 154 mile marker in reference to a BOLO (be on the lookout) given by the Louisiana State Police about a possible drunk driver.

The pursuit continued north on Interstate 49 and entered DeSoto Parish.  Deputies with the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office deployed a tire deflation device, commonly known as a spike strip, at about the 172 mile maker in an effort to disable the vehicle and end the pursuit.  The vehicle
was successfully spiked and exited the highway before hitting a tree.

The driver sustained injuries, which appear at this time to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and was transported by EMS to an area hospital.

Detectives with the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office were called to the scene and ultimately requested the assistance of Louisiana State Police Investigators.

This investigation is currently on-going.
