Negotiation leads to man giving self up after ordeal at Center motel, ID'ed as law officer

There were some tense moments at a Center motel Thursday night.

Center Police report that a very emotionally unstable white male refused to leave his room at Best Western, and was threatening to harm himself and others.

According to a Center Police Department press release, officer Steve Thornburg successfully talked the man out of the room after a lengthy negotiation.

He was escorted from the property by Center PD and taken to the police department where he was evaluated by mental healthcare professionals, and released without charges to responsible authorities.

There were no injuries during the ordeal and guests of the motel were safely assembled.

Center Broadcasting has been able to confirm the individual was a law enforcement officer from Polk County.
